Bangs Island Mussels is made up of the incredible people you see below. We could not do it without them!

Gary Moretti, co-owner and executive chaiR

matt moretti, co-owner and ceo

Annie Moretti, chief operating officer

A founding member of Bangs Island Mussels, Annie is our digital sea captain, making sure everything is smooth sailing on the back end. She works hard to embody the company’s mission of creating sustainability and helping the environment beyond the sea. When not at Bangs, you can find Annie taking a long walk on the beach with her two pups (Primrose and Lucy), hanging out with her kids, or picking up nursing shifts

tom briggs, farm manager

Tom has been working on the water for years, as an environmental educator, tour boat captain, marine construction  worker, petroleum terminal operator and more.  But his favorite thing to do is to help grow delicious, healthy food in the ocean, without fertilizer, pesticide or even fresh water.  He is from Maryland originally but loves the harsh winters and bold rocky coast of Maine. His hobby is trying to warm his old bones by the wood stove, fending off ice weasel attacks and dreaming of high tech robot designs.  Sometimes kayaking in a lake and being an assistant bee keeper and cat wrangler.

Brittney Cacace-Shortill, Administrative manager

Maine native, organization wizard, merch queen: Brittney is a jack of all trades with a love of the outdoors, especially the ocean. Growing up on the beaches of Old Orchard led to a lifelong infatuation with the waves and everything that lies beneath. After working in insurance & benefits for many years, joining the Bangs crew was the best move she ever made. In her spare time, she loves to design costumes and collect shiny trinkets.

WATER CREW

James Niziol, captain

James “is a born “Stay-at-Home,” content with his native earth and with little desire to be a globe-trotter of any sort. It is enough for him to climb the hill and watch a sunset against the island spruces, and the sea. There is no need to venture after, with all he seeks at his own doorstep.”

Cameron Plaisted, CAPtain

Maine native and ocean enthusiast. Side heaper, loot and leave, rage drop, seafood procurement specialist.

chris peters

Diving head first into aquaculture, this Jersey native turned Mainiac is a jack of all trades waterman. His passion for the ocean and nature began surfing the York beaches as a kid, paddling the waves off Kauai as a young adult, and now cultivating delicious mussels in Casco Bay. As Mark Twain said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” Chris found his why in Casco Bay.

Ian Mcpheters

Gillian Prostko

A UNE Marine Science alum who started on the processing line and made her way to the water. Mussel baby mama with millions in the brood!

Zoe Benisek

andrew hoffman

Originally from Chicagoland, Andrew found his passion for aquaculture and the sea while studying environmental studies at Bates College. Now a recent grad, he dove into the field and loves every moment out on the water.
